Aston Villa have appointed Kevin MacDonald as the club’s assistant manager. The 54-year-old has been plying his trade at Nottingham Forest but returns to Villa Park and becomes Tim Sherwood’s Deputy Headmaster and will be in the dugout for Saturday’s visit of Stoke.
MacDonald held various roles at Villa and was briefly caretaker manager in 2010 following the shock exit of Martin O’Neill. He joins the first-team coach, Mark Robson, and the performance analyst, Seamus Brady, as part of Sherwood’s merry men.
He's impressed at Forest as their lead professional development phase coach and took the club’s under-18 side to the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals.
