A late strike from Wolves's Benik Afobe cruelly snatched victory from Villa with at Molineux.
Kick off was delayed for ten minutes as fans flocked to the midweek friendly.
Villa went ahead after just six minutes as Libor Kozak continued his rehabilitation by collecting the ball on the edge of the area before clinically drilling a superb strike past Carl Ikeme.
The Czech striker - facing fresh competition for a first team berth - almost bagged a second goal before the quarter-hour mark, but his close-range effort tantalisingly cannoned off the crossbar and went clear.
Leandro Bacuna, normally so dangerous from set-pieces sent a free kick straight into the hands of Ikeme.
Gabriel Agbonlahor had an effort easily dealt with by Ikeme but he was clattered by Stearman and this eventually led to hi withdrawal through injury.
On 72 minutes, Wolves levelled it through David Edwards, who flicked a cross from Iorfa into the net from close range.
However, five minutes later, Villa retook the lead through Kozak after he slid in at the back post to convert an assist from Callum Robinson.
It looked as though that would be enough to steal the victory, but in the dying moments, Afobe collected a pass from Conor Coady before coolly slotting past Bunn.
Villa fans got a brief glimpse of Jordan Ayew, but there were no real opportunities for him to show his class.
