Ron joined the club when we were in the old Second Division and took us not only to be League Champions but the side he created would go on to lift the European Cup.
In his very first season he led Villa to promotion back to the top-flight winning the League Cup along the way with victory over Norwich and was honoured with the Manager of the Year accolade for this achievement .
Further cup glory followed with the League Cup final in 1977, Ron's men beating Everton in a three match epic of final.
Ron then dismantled this flair filled side and spent the proceeds on building the team which in 1980-81 would win Villa's first First Division title for 71 years.
Ron left the club in controversial circumstances in February 1982, but under Tony Barton's stewardship, the team that Ron built were crowned Euroipean Champions.
