Christian Benteke's agent, Eris Kismet has been describing the moment the striker ruptured his Achilles.
"He wanted to shoot and suddenly he heard a noise. He thought someone had tackled him from behind. Even people on the centre line heard the sound of the tendon rupture.
"He’s mentally strong. He knows he can’t turn back the clock,”
Benteke went down in training on Thursday, as the team prepared for the home Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday, and scans have revealed a rupture that will require surgery and an absence of at least six months.
Benteke has been a regular starter for Belgium, who face South Korea, Algeria and Russia in the group stage at the World Cup finals. The awful news is likely to mean greater involvement in Brazil for his Belgium team-mate Romelu Lukaku.
