Despite a spell playing for Arsenal, our new head honcho has no Premier League managerial experience, so, once more Fox and Lerner are taking a massive gamble with the clubs future, faced with a situation that even a dyed-in-the-wool Premier League manager might struggle to cope with.
Garde learnt his trade in Ligue 1 in France and he'll need to adapt quickly to the rigours of the English game if Villa are to have any chance of beating the drop.
He also needs to win over a fanbase jaded by facing a sixth season of mediocre football, struggle and misery.
Rémi Garde said: "It is an unbelievable honour to be the manager of such an illustrious football club.
"I've had extremely positive meetings with both the owner, Randy Lerner, and Chief Executive Tom Fox. They have ambitious plans for the Club and I'm excited that they have turned to me to help them realise them.
"Obviously we have a difficult task in front of us but I'm looking forward to the challenge with the support of everyone who loves Aston Villa."
Clearly, as fans, we have no choice but to get behind the new guy, but he should be aware that patience is wearing thin and he faces the very difficult situation of needing to get points on the board from the get-go.
