Dripping with history: Villa face Rotherham in the League Cup

Aston Villa have bagged a home draw against Rotherham United in the Capital One Cup Second Round in a game dripping with League Cup history.

Villa won the inaugural Football League Cup Final beating Rotherham United over two legs in 1961.  Rotherham had gained an advantage up at Millmoor with a two-nil first leg victory but plucky Villa ran amok at Villa Park, winning the return leg 3-0 to claim the trophy, with claret and blue legend Peter McParland bagging the winner in extra time and going on to praise the Villa faithful.

“They are the greatest fans in football,” he said. “Even when we had not scored and were still trying to make up a 2-0 deficit they kept urging us on.”
