The villamad.co.uk Awards 2013/14

The end of a particularly tough season and time to hand out the villamad.co.uk end of season gongs:


Player of the Season: Shay Given
We're far too miffed with the performances of our players to give it to any of them. We had got it earmarked for Fabian Delph as he quite often won our Player of the Week before we became too hacked off with dire team performances to dish it out any more. Delph's couldn't-care-less display at the Liberty Stadium (he was by no means the only one that day)was the last straw and made us decide not to let him have it. However Shay Given performed heroics week after week when on loan at Middlesbrough and his decision to accept the offer to help out with the coaching in a time of crisis after the shoddy way he has been treated by Aston Villa shows what a big man he is.


Goal of the Season: Christian Benteke v Norwich at Villa Park

Even an out of form and struggling for fitness Big Chris managed more goals than anyone else and by a street. His acrobatic effort against Norwich got Villa back on track in that game and got the stadium buzzing. Honourable mentions to Delph's goals against Southampton and Chelsea and those Bacuna free kicks, but it's Benteke's Doug Ellis inspired bicycle kick that gets the gong.




Breakthrough Player of the Season: Callum Robinson
With many of the most influential players getting valuable experience out on loan, it's not been an easy for the Under 21 outfit who have been losing more games than they've been used to in recent seasons. This hasn't stopped Callum from impressing though and he has taken advantage of the injuries to Villa's expensive strikeforce and forced his way into the first team squad.







The Golden Boot: Christian Benteke
Nobody else got near sadly. When we lost Christian, we lost our goal threat. The 23 year old striker managed 10 Premier League goals  in 26 appearances




Young Player of the Year: Jordan Graham

The exciting wide man had a couple of spells out on loan but it's been in the Under 21s that his skills have come to our attention. Coming back after a long spell out injured, he's now beginning to live up to his early promise and the next couple of years could be big for a player still improving but born to entertain.
