Report: Swindon Town 0-2 Aston Villa

Aston Villa have continued their preparations for the new season winning a typical pre season kick-about against Swindon Town 2-0 at the County Ground.

Swindon began strongly, but it was Tim Sherwood's band of brothers who created the first decent chance of the evening when Gabby Agbonlahor headed over from Leandro Bacuna's cross.
Despite loads of possession, Villa were frustrated by a workmanlike Swindon team  until the breakthrough arrived when Alan Hutton sparked events ending in Scott Sinclair slotting home from close range.

Villa could have added to their lead twice before the break with Carles Gil curling just wide of the target before Agbonlahor missed a golden opportunity after sprinting clear of the Swindon defence.

Our hearts sank in the second half when Gil limped off after falling awkwardly, let's hope it's not too bad.

Villa continued to look the more likely to score as the game dragged on, Micah Richards going close with a header against the post.

A rash of substitutions knackered the flow of the game in the closing stages but Villa managed to guarantee the win late on when young Jerell Sellars closed down a clearance from a rookie goalkeeper before tapping the ball into an empty net.
